Answer Plus Becomes TAS Trader

Answer Plus was a printed magazine covering the telephone answering service (TAS) industry.  Published quarterly, Answer Plus was launched in 2003 and the first 16-page issue was mailed to 2,000 telephone answering services across the United States.  Its mission was simple: to “Answer the Questions of the TAS Industry.”  Publisher and editor Peter DeHaan, an answering service industry veteran, also wrote the lead article for each issue.

Published by Peter DeHaan Publishing Inc, Answer Plus was initially a custom publication funded by a leading answering service equipment and software vendorAnswer Plus received rave reviews and spirited support from its readers, who were the owners and managers of telephone answering services.  Unfortunately, the business model that its sponsor envisioned to support Answer Plus’s ongoing production and distribution costs did not prove viable and its funding was unsustainable.  The sponsor withdrew their backing and another means of support could not be found.  Sadly, Answer Plus was shuttered after only two issues.  However, the Answer Plus Website still exists and continues to attract people every day.  At AnswerPlusNews.com visitors can access answering service industry resources and download Answer Plus’s two historic issues as a PDF file.

In 2009, the vision of Answer Plus magazine was reborn under a new moniker, TAS Trader, this time as an e-publication.  TAS Trader is a PDF file, which is formatted in landscape mode to be easily viewed on a computer screen or alternately to be conveniently printed by those who prefer a hard copy.  Again, the focus of TAS Trader is exclusively on the telephone answering service industry.  TAS Trader’s tag line is “By the TAS Industry…For the TAS Industry.”  Its vision is to be an answering service resource where industry leaders can come to “buy, sell, learn, [and] succeed.”

The first issue of TAS Trader, in April, 2009, was emailed to 4,500 potential readers, again receiving many accolades and much affirmation.  For the remainder of 2009, TAS Trader was produced bimonthly.  Starting in 2010 TAS Trader is published monthly.  The subscription base is being “right-sized” and currently stands at 3,000.  It is expected to eventually hone in on the 2,500 mark, which is the estimated size of the answering service industry in the United States.  While most subscribers do reside in the United States, its circulation is global.

By distributing TAS Trader electronically, a publication's two biggest costs – printing and mailing – are eliminated.  Without the monthly expenses of printing and postage to weigh it down, TAS Trader has a viable and sustainable business model that will allow it to succeed and thrive for many years to come.

TAS Trader is supported by a vibrant and growing Website, TAStrader.com, where visitors can download past issues and read key articles online.  As of the end of 2010, TAStrader.com boasted 70 pages – and continues to grow.  From 2009 to 2010 TAS Trader Website traffic has increased 10 fold, currently enjoying over 10,000 page views a month.  Also, readers may follow TAS Trader on Twitter or "like" TAS Trader on Facebook.  Plus, there is a TAS Trader blog which includes TAS industry news, lists upcoming answering service conferences, and announces new issues of TAS Trader.

TAS Trader is an advertiser supported publication and is distributed at no cost to answering service industry leaders and participants, who can subscribe to TAS Trader onlineTAS Trader promotional opportunities include running display ads in the issue, posting banner ads on TAStrader.com, and sponsoring its electronic distribution or newsfeed.
